Stockport food and drink scene serves up wins at Manchester Food & Drink Festival Awards 2022

Food and drink businesses in Stockport town centre were served generous helpings of success at the Manchester Food & Drink Festival Awards 2022.

Winners were announced yesterday evening (Monday 26th September) at an award ceremony that took place at Manchester city centre’s Escape to Freight Island where shortlisted businesses joined organisers, judges and guests. From the shortlist, final judging took place via the Manchester Food & Drink Festival awards website where the public could vote for their favourite food and drink venues.

Stockport’s Where The Light Gets In (pictured) took the star prize at the Manchester Food & Drink Festival Awards 2022 picking up the coveted Restaurant of the Year award. Housed in a former coffee warehouse, Chef de Patron, Sam Buckley’s award winning restaurant Where The Light Gets In has won many accolades, attracting regular diners from across the UK eager to taste his unique menu of the day.

Stockport’s Foodie Friday Pop-Up event, organised and managed by the Barratt family taking place on the last Friday of the month in Stockport town centre, picked up the Pop Up Project of the Year award. Organisers, John and Rosemary Barratt were awarded the Howard & Ruth Outstanding Achievement Award.

Stockport Gin, which recently moved into the town centre, was shortlisted as Independent Drinks Producer of the Year, while Stockport was shortlisted in the Foodie Neighbourhood of the Year category, won by Ancoats, highlighting the growing reputation of the town’s hospitality offer.

Commenting on the awards in the Manchester Evening News, MFDF’s Director Alexa Stratton-Powell said:

“The strength of this year’s awards are testament to the hard work and dedication of all the nominees. As ever, the awards put the spotlight on the incredible talent and resilience of our brilliant hospitality industry.

“Despite hugely challenging times for the industry, we’ve celebrated 112 fantastic Greater Manchester businesses this evening as the reputation of the sector continues to go from strength to strength. We’d like to thank the judges, everyone who voted and the nominated businesses who took part in this year’s awards, as well as our hosts at Escape to Freight Island for a wonderful night of celebrations.”
