Over 100 volunteers from Central Stockport attended a celebration event to mark their achievements.
The Central Take Part Awards 2014 is co-ordinated by Stockport Council’s Central Neighbourhood Management Board which is a partnership including the Council, Police, Public Health and Stockport Homes.
The event took place on Friday 7th March and recognises the outstanding contribution of individuals and community groups who volunteer their time and abilities to help others in the Central area of Stockport.
The awards were presented in three categories:
- Volunteer of the Year
- Community Group of the Year
- Special Contribution to Central Stockport
This year, over 70 people completed nomination forms in support of 30 individuals and 10 different community groups. The winners were chosen by an independent panel.

The awards were given to:
- Volunteer of the Year (Winner) – Chiko Kapito
- Volunteer of the Year (Highly Commended) – Derek Atherton
- Community Group of the Year (Winner) – Welcome Café and Social Group
- Community Group of the Year (Highly Commended) – Millbrook Community Café
- Special Contribution to Central (Winner) – Lyn Ellis
- Special Contribution to Central (Highly Commended) – Carlie Dawson
Councillor Mark Weldon, Deputy Leader of Stockport Council and Executive Member for Corporate, Customer and Community Services, said:
“This was a very successful event and a great way to celebrate the achievements of volunteers. I would like to congratulate all the volunteers who were nominated for the awards.”
