Equity Housing Group in Cheadle, Stockport has launched an exciting new project that’s set to make a massive difference to local communities and to peoples’ lives.
The Equity Foundation was formally launched at an event that took place at Stockport Art Gallery attended by Stockport Mayor, Councillor Wendy Meikle.
It was attended by over 100 represetantives from local agencies, businesses and charities. In his welcoming speech to assembled guests, Equity’s Chair, Brian Ashfield outlined the aims of the Foundation and how it would work with local businesses, Equity’s corporate partners and local organisations and agencies organisations to invest in great ideas that will improve communities.
This year alone, it will provide funding of over £100,000 to support projects to improve health awareness and help people to get out of unemployment. In the few weeks since it was set up, the foundation has already funded 16 organisations in carrying out projects across Trafford, Stockport and South Manchester.
As well as supporting people and communities, the foundation is helping businesses to achieve their corporate social responsibilities in the local community. Through match funding, the foundation will support a number of jointly sponsored projects with local businesses. Planned projects already include work to get young people off the streets and engaged in art, to the development of green spaces for everybody to enjoy and share.
This year, Equity Housing Group celebrates its 50thanniversary. Equity’s Chief Executive David Fisher said; “There are so many organisations and people who do great work in the communities they live and work in. The foundation provides an opportunity for us to work together in a joined up way. By sharing our ideas, our commitment and our resources we can achieve far more than if we worked in isolation.”
