Stockport energy specialists, Edina, have grown their Indian exports, as the country increases its investment in cleaner power generation.
The Stockport firm, which also has offices in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, and in the Republic of Ireland, has seen its export pipeline in India grow to £107 million, following the opening of an Indian office in New Delhi in 2019, and its acquisition by parent company, EPAL – a joint venture of India’s Energy Efficiency Services and EnergyPro Asset Management – in 2018.
Exports have focused on trigeneration projects, with strong demand in the Indian market for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technologies which can be powered by biogas or non-conventional fuels. Hugh Richmond, CEO of Edina, said:
We have been at the forefront of developing the UK and Ireland’s decentralised power infrastructure for more than 30 years. Now we are using our knowledge and technical innovation to help India accelerate its transformation towards a low carbon economy.
“We are seeing strong demand for our high-efficiency CHP technologies to meet India’s growing need for more sustainable and resilient power and cooling solutions. One of our initial contracts is a £1.11 million trigeneration project at major automotive manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra. We are also supplying Innovations Infocom & IT Parks Pvt Ltd with a 2MWe trigeneration plant to support their data centre infrastructure.”
Edina’s fuel-efficient technology has seen the firm previously win the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and specialises in the supply, installation and maintenance of gas power generation, peaking plants and CHP systems.
Stockport based Edina was Indian energy efficiency specialist’s first investment in the UK, and its exports have helped EPAL grow to become the fastest-growing Indian-owned company in the UK according to Grant Thornton’s India meets Britain Tracker 2020.
