A further £115 million funding for housing developments on brownfield sites has been approved by Greater Manchester leaders.
92 schemes across the city-region are set to benefit from the funding, including 10 in Stockport. In total, the funding will support delivery of more than 7,800 new homes across Greater Manchester, following approval by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) of the second tranche of the £150 million Brownfield Housing Fund. The three year fund was originally announced as part of Greater Manchester’s 2023 devolution deal.
Of the 7,800 new homes being supported by the funding, around 4,000 are set to be affordable, with 79% of schemes to be built to Future Homes Standard.
Cllr Ged Cooney, Greater Manchester Lead for Housing, said:
“This latest £115m boost to housebuilding through the Brownfield Housing Fund will unlock good, affordable homes, support skilled construction jobs and apprenticeships, and open routes for further investment.
“We will continue to use our devolved powers and funding to prioritise brownfield land for development, working together to exceed our targets for delivering the new homes that we know Greater Manchester needs.”
Funding in Stockport will support some of the major developments moving forward in the town centre, as well as smaller schemes throughout the borough. Among schemes benefiting from the funding are Knightsbridge (pictured), Amstone Venture’s plans for the former Sainsbury’s supermarket site on Warren Street, as well as at Stockport 8 and the former St Thomas’ Hospital site within the Town Centre West regeneration district.
