Stockport County Community Trust marked Men’s Mental Health Week (9th to 15th June) by raising awareness of a number of its projects
Many of the trust’s initiatives aim to help break stigma, remove barriers and promote conversation about boys’ and men’s mental health.
Stockport County Community Trust’s wide-ranging Health and Wellbeing programmes work in partnership with local health providers and charitable organisations using the power of Stockport County to make a positive difference for participants. The Trust’s Health & Wellbeing Manager Eddie Owen said:
“At County Community Trust we believe it’s essential to use Stockport County to promote positive mental health through our provision. We have a range of mental wellbeing projects delivered weekly from Edgeley Park and we want to do our utmost to support our local community.
“Mental Health is an essential pillar of our recently launched three-year Health and Wellbeing Strategy; which is designed to utilise the power and reach of the football club to provide much-needed mental wellbeing programmes for people across the borough.”
Programmes run by Stockport County Community Trustinclude:
- County-themed sporting memories project, the 90 Minute Club, which aims to use the power of football to support those experiencing social isolation or loneliness as well as those living with dementia.
- The Social Wellbeing Group held at Edgeley Park is a warm and welcoming get-together that promotes physical activity and positive mental health through a range of weekly activities, including yoga and weekly walks.
- Delivered at Edgeley Park by mental health practitioners from The Big Life Group, Talking Therapy is a free-to-access, eight-week, in-person course designed to boost motivation and challenge unhelpful thoughts.
- The Armed Forces programme aims to improve the wellbeing of ex-military personnel, who can be prone to mental ill health. Trust-run activities include the NAAFI Break meet-up, a darts and pool session and a dedicated football team.
- The inclusive Walking Football programme is available to men aged 45+, of all abilities, and has many mental, social and physical benefits. Tournaments and training sessions take place on a regular basis.
- Designed to encourage gentle physical activity, boost confidence and improve mobility, the weekly Healthy Hatters session is delivered by qualified fitness professionals.
