Stockport Councillors celebrated two of the town’s winning Paralympians at an event at the Town Hall.
Local Olympic medal winning Paralympians Carly Tait and Andy Small’s amazing achievements were praised when they both attended a celebration reception at Stockport Town Hall.
As well as learning of the two athletes experiences, the afternoon included a specially made Olympic cake, presented in the Mayor’s Parlour, in appreciation of their heroic success as part of the Paralympian GB Team.
Carly and Andy met the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport (Councillor Chris Gordon and Dr Margaret Gordon) along with the Leader of the Council Councillor Alex Ganotis, Chief Executive Eamonn Boylan and group leaders.
They then moved on for their efforts to be recognised before the Full Council Meeting in the Council Chamber. There the Leader of the Council and Group Leaders gave speeches commending the athletes on their tremendous achievements at the Rio games.
Cllr Ganotis said: “Stockport is proud of our Team GB athletes; it is a great pleasure to honour them in this way to show our gratitude for their efforts and achievements. They are an inspiration to everyone”.
