Stockport Council has announced a third round of ‘top-up’ funding to organisations in the borough acting as a ‘warm space’ for those struggling to heat homes during the current energy crisis.
The council is keen to support existing providers of warm spaces who are delivering a welcoming environment along with a variety of activities for residents during the cost of living crisis, and the third round of funding will be available whether or not a grant has been received so far.
Funded by the One Stockport Local Fund, the warm spaces scheme has proved a great success and very popular in Stockport. Over 120 warm spaces have now received grants from the previous rounds of funding, and Stockport can proudly say that there is a warm space in every ward of the Borough. This initiative is a key part of the council’s drive to keep everyone warm and well this winter.
Applications are now open for the top up funding, and organisations can apply for grants of up to £1000. Providers should use this form to apply. The deadline for applications is 11:59pm on 23rd January 2023.
Cllr Helen-Foster Grime, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing at Stockport Council, commented:
“I’m so proud of the success of our warm spaces programme. The programme runs until March, so if you haven’t come down to your local space yet, I really encourage you to pay them a visit. You’ll find warm, welcoming spaces where the whole family can spend time without the pressure to join anything or buy anything.”
Cllr Malcolm Allan, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, added:
“This round of funding will support our existing providers to deliver the fantastic services that our communities have enjoyed since November when the programme began. If you are an existing warm space provider, please do apply for a grant if it would help you continue to provide, or even expand this facility for Stockport residents. We are particularly keen to hear from providers doing innovative work, or perhaps serving a large number of residents or supporting a particular section of our community.”
