
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council was named the Local Authority of the Year by industry journal, The MJ, at its annual awards.
The council was presented with the most coveted award of the event by actress and comedian, Sally Phillips, at a gala ceremony on 20th June 2025. The ceremony at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel in London was attended by over 800 guests.
Judges praised the local authority’s One Stockport ethos, which which shone through its service delivery and is bold investment strategy. The MJ’s judging panel also highlighted Stockport’s ‘clarity of purpose and impact’ and emphasis on people-centred progress.
Across 19 categories, Stockport Council was one of just two North-West local authorities to take home an award on the day, alongside Lancaster City Council, which was recognised for its climate change response.
