Stockport Council is supporting Foster Care Fortnight (15th to 28th May 2023) in a bid to recruit more foster carers in the borough.
Foster Care Fortnight is The Fostering Network’s annual campaign to raise awareness of the transformational power of foster care for children and young people who cannot live with their families, and to celebrate the fostering community. This year’s theme is #FosteringCommunities.
To mark the campaign this year, Stockport Council’s fostering service will be celebrating the work of foster families and communities in supporting local children and young people to thrive.
The campaign will raise awareness of the extraordinary dedication and work of foster carers while calling for more people from a diversity of backgrounds to come forward as potential foster carers who can offer a stable and safe home to sibling groups, older children and children with disabilities within their own communities.
Local foster carers will also be sharing their experiences of fostering in their local community on local radio and our Mockingbird foster carers will be sharing their experiences of fostering and how they support each other and local foster families and share their skills and expertise. Local businesses will be encouraged to become Fostering Friendly employers.
Vaunda Taylor, Service Lead for Stockport Council’s fostering service, said:
“Stockport Council is delighted to be supporting Foster Care Fortnight which is a fantastic opportunity to highlight and celebrate the caring work of our foster carers and their families in their own communities. We value our foster carers who play a vital role in transforming the lives of our local children and young people here in Stockport and we recognise that our foster carers are highly skilled professionals who we treat as equal members of the team around the child and celebrate with them at our achievement awards held annually.”
