Stockport Council launches Spring Clean campaign

Stockport Council will lead on a programme of organised clean-up events and activities across the borough, over the eight-week Spring Clean campaign period.

Kicking off this week, council staff will get to work on tidying up District and Local Centres, parks and greenspaces, as well as removing illegal graffiti and collecting waste. They’ll be supported by local Friends of Parks groups, schools, businesses, and volunteers, to get our borough gleaming and highlight some of the great work that takes place around the clock to ensure Stockport is a clean and safe environment that everyone can enjoy.

Other planned activities include gully cleansing, fly post removal, and raising awareness of the hazards of fly-tipping, dangers of single-use plastic, and much more.

Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said:

“I’m excited to launch this year’s Spring Clean campaign alongside our brilliant TLC tipper crew.

“Maintaining the beauty of our borough takes hard work and is a collective effort. I encourage everyone to join the council and do their bit to ensure Stockport stays a great place for residents and visitors to enjoy.”

Cllr Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways and Transport Services, said:

“Our residents are proud of where they live, and I’m proud of the work we’re doing together to make Stockport a greener, cleaner place for everyone.

“Our Spring Clean campaign is an opportunity to celebrate some of that hard work, and to highlight the unsung heroes who are making it happen.

“It’s not just a chance to give back to your community; it’s also a chance to get to know your neighbours, improve your health and wellbeing, and to make small changes that can lead to big improvements across the borough.”

There are lots of ways for residents to get involved, from reporting fly tipping problems to organising a litter pick, or volunteering at one of the borough’s many parks – a great way to make new friends and make a difference in the community.
