Stockport Council has opened nominations for new awards in the borough to recognise the volunteers and community groups taking care of Stockport’s green spaces.
The awards aim to raise awareness and celebrate the work and commitment of Stockport’s many dedicated ‘Friends of’ and volunteers who help make the borough’s parks, greenspaces and cemeteries welcoming places for visitors and residents. Tasks undertaken by volunteers and friends of groups complement routine and grounds maintenance work carried out by the Councils contractors, Totally Local Company.
Cllr Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Parks and Leisure, said:
“I’m delighted that we can formally recognise the amazing work that our many volunteers and friends of groups undertake throughout the year. They are real unsung heroes and work tirelessly to ensure our much-loved parks and greenspaces look their best. To be able to give them the recognition they so rightly deserve through these awards and show our appreciation is something that means a lot to me. Good luck to everyone who enters!”
