Stockport Council is encouraging residents to pledge to recycle their broken or unused electrical items as part of Recycle Week.
The tenth National Recycle Week takes place from 17th to 23rd June.
Most people own at least one broken electrical item, be it an old mobile phone, children’s toys hidden, old power tools or a broken kettle that can be recycled.
If the item is in good working order people can ask friends and family if they would like them, swap or sell them online or see if a local charity will accept them.
The good news is even if they are broken they don’t have to go to waste, because people can recycle them. If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of the following, you can recycle it at a Recycling Centre:
- Does it have a plug?
- Does it use batteries?
- Does it need charging?
- Does it have the crossed-out wheelie bin logo on it?
Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Stockport Council’s Executive Member Communities and Sustainability, said:
“Stockport residents are keen and committed recyclers and I would encourage them to recycle any unwanted electrical items which can often end up in landfill or even worse fly-tipped because people aren’t sure what to do with them.
“Recycle Week is a great opportunity to remind people how they can reduce, reuse and recycle unwanted electrical items. It’s very easy and there is lots of help and advice out there for residents.”
