Stockport Council is supporting Foster Care Fortnight by encouraging residents to consider becoming a foster carer.
As part of Foster Care Fortnight the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Wendy Meikle has been supporting local foster carers to help raise awareness of the need to recruit more foster carers.
Local foster carers will be speaking to the public at various events across the borough during Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from 13th to 26th May.
At the events people interested in becoming a foster carer will be given the chance to put themselves ‘in the frame’ and have their photograph taken with the Council’s fostering team to show their support for fostering and encourage people to come forward to learn more about fostering.
During Foster Care Fortnight, the Council’s Fostering team will be at:
- Handforth Dean Shopping Centre foyer (between M&S and Tesco) with local foster carers talking to people about fostering on Thursday 16th May, from 10.30pm to 2.30pm
- Mersey Square on Friday 17th May, from 11.00am to 3.00pm
- Stockport Market place on Saturday 18th May, from 11.00am to 3.00pm
The Council has recently launched a new specialist scheme which provides supportive placements to children with additional needs. The Council will be holding an open evening dedicated to this scheme on 21st May at the Village Hotel, Cheadle, from 6.30pm and 8.00pm.
