Enterprise Car Rentals has partnered with Stockport Council to encourage more local residents to join a car club scheme in the borough.
Car clubs offer low-mileage drivers the option to replace their car with short-term rental access to a hire car, charged by the hour or daily, allowing drivers to eliminate expensive running costs for a car they only infrequently use. It is estimated that drivers who travel less than 8,000 miles per year can save up to £3,500 by eliminating vehicle running costs, such as a car tax, MOT and repair costs and insurance.
Stockport Council has negotiated an exclusive joining membership of £10 for the first year of membership with the Car Club, which also gives you £10 starting credit for journeys. Tailored packages for businesses are also available under the car club scheme. The extension of the car club scheme with Enterprise follows a successful trial programme of cars in the town centre.
It is hoped that increasing the uptake of car clubs will help to improve the borough’s environmental credentials. A typical car club car emits over 20% less CO2 per kilometre than the average car, and they are used more efficiently, as they are typically not used for shorter journeys where travelling on foot, by bike or by public transport may be more suitable.
One car club car can also replace over 20 private cars, helping to reduce traffic jams and free up parking spaces.
Stockport residents can use the code STOCK10 when joining Enterprise’s Car Club to access a discount, and then can book a car online or by phone to unlock it from a designated bay in the local neighbourhood.
