Stockport Council has been recognised with a Silver award under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) Employer Recognition Award for its work supporting the defence personnel community.
The MoD Employer Recognition Award allows organisations to demonstrate their commitment to ensuring fair recruitment processes for those in or previously in the armed forces, as well as ensuring that the workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people.
The local authority has been recognised for supporting and championing current and former service men and women and their families. Stockport Council has also signed the Armed Forces Covenant, in a further commitment to our work to include and support those working in or previously serving military personnel.
Cllr Amanda Peers, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Neighbourhoods at Stockport Council, commented:
“Veterans of our armed forces can bring a vast range of skills and experience to new roles. We’re proud that as a council we have serving members of the armed forces, such as reservists, carrying out this vital public service alongside their role with us.”
The council plans to go for the Gold Award in 2023: the highest standard under the MoD’s Awards system.
In addition, the council is looking to encourage other local employers to participate in the programme – organisations can find out more about the MoD Employer Recognition Scheme via the government website and sign up to show their support of the armed forces community.
