
Two Stockport College students have been named among the best in the UK after winning a gold and a silver medal at WorldSkills UK LIVE.
Stephanie Kelly (pictured above) and Joely McGahey are studying nail technology at Stockport College and were elated to walk away with a gold and silver medal respectively from the event at the NEC, Birmingham which took place from 21st to the 23rd November.
WorldSkills UK LIVE is the UK’s largest skills, apprenticeship and careers event. At the heart of the event are the National Finals of the WorldSkills UK Competitions, which are run in 70 different skills across industries including Digital, Technology, Engineering, Construction, and Hospitality.
The Trafford College Group, which took over Stockport College in a merger in 2018, placed 1st in the North West, 2nd in England and 9th in the UK. Alongside the two Stockport College students, Trafford College’s Ben Metcalfe winning a silver medal in confectionery as part of the team of eight students from the group. Competition areas included confectionery, nail technology, health and social care, and personal training.

Designed by industry experts, the WorldSkills UK Competitions equip apprentices and learners with the world-class skills needed to help UK businesses better compete globally. The competition represents 70 different skills across industries including Digital, Technology, Engineering, Construction, and Hospitality.
