Stockport charities are getting behind The 2.6 Challenge on Sunday April 26th following cancellation of numerous fundraising activities due to coronavirus restrictions.
Organisers of the UK’s biggest mass-participation sports events have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help to save the UK’s charities. The 2.6 Challenge will launch on Sunday 26 April – what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world’s biggest one-day annual fundraising event, which raised £66.4 million for charities in 2019.
Hazel Grove-based Beechwood Cancer Care, and The Seashell Trust in Cheadle are both backing the initiative.
People of all ages are taking on The 2.6 Challenge with a host of 26-themed activities – from walking, running or cycling 2.6 miles, juggling for 2.6 minutes, to holding online workouts with 26 friends.
The only requirement is that you must follow Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing. Most people are taking part from Sunday 26 April, however, participants can do their activity whenever is most convenient.
Wendy Bray, Fundraising Manager at the Seashell Trust said:
The beauty of this is that it is so inclusive – you can do anything you like from learning the 26 letters of the alphabet in sign language to clocking up 2600 steps around the house every day.
“Seashell Trust continue to support our very vulnerable children and young people and their families throughout the crisis. It can be especially frightening and isolating having a child with complex needs during this pandemic and we are re-modelling our services to keep everyone safe and well supported so donations are particularly crucial to us right now.”
