Stockport celebrated the achievements of its young people at an awards evening attended by 330 people at Stockport Town Hall.
Stockport Young Stars event is organised by the Council. It recognises people who have undertaken education and training and have positive experiences.
Awards were presented by:
- Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement
- Gillian Easson, Chairman of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust,
- Danny Pearson, Principal of Aquinas
- Anthony Kay of the National Apprenticeship Service
The event also includes local employers who are involved with the ‘14-19 Agenda’ by providing education and training including Apprenticeships, work experience, and mock interviews. Learners at schools, colleges and training providers competed in several categories.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said: “I would like to congratulate everybody who was nominated for an award and all the winners for their fine achievements. This event is a great way to celebrate Stockport’s talented young people – their contributions in the community and successes of people who made great progress since starting in education, training or employment, or improved their knowledge and skills.”

The “Young Stars” winners were as follows:
- Apprentice of the Year – Rayne O’Brien from Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College
- Contribution to the community pre 16 – Olivia Farrow from Bramhall High School
- Contribution to the community post 16 – Ryan Greenwood from Stockport Academy
- Further Education learner of the year – Aiden Sheridan from Stockport College
- Key stage 4 learner of the year – Sam Bolton from Marple Hall School
- Outstanding Achievement – Sally Roberts from Hazel Grove High School
- Overcoming adversity pre 16 – Liam Walsh from Windlehurst School
- Overcoming adversity post 16 – Rowan Seanz from Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College
- Special Educational Needs learner of the year – Kieran Donnan from The Kingsway School
