Stockport businesses are being encouraged to share their thoughts on skills gaps and support needs in the their sector as part of work to prepare a new Local Skills Improvement Plan for Greater Manchester.
The LSIP is focused on understanding where skills gaps are genuinely being felt by employers across Greater Manchester, which roles are hardest to recruit into, and what would most help organisations to grow. It is an important mechanism for ensuring that skills and training provision reflects real business need, rather than theory. It is very important that key businesses in Stockport are included in this work and actively involved in shaping these conversations and influencing future priorities.
Claire Ebrey is leading this research on behalf of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and will be speaking directly with employers to capture practical, lived experience. The research is focusing primarily on key growth sectors in Greater Manchester, although perspectives from businesses in other sectors are also welcomed. Key sectors include:
- Manufacturing (including advanced manufacturing)
- Clean energy industries
- Creative industries
- Defence
- Digital and technologies
- Financial services
- Life sciences
- Professional and business services
- Construction
- Logistics
Claire will be running a mix of short one-to-one conversations and small group discussions with business leaders and colleagues working in HR, people, talent and recruitment. The insights gathered will directly inform future skills and training priorities across the city region.
If you would be open to taking part in a short conversation, please contact Claire directly at via email, mentioning that you are part of the Stockport business community, and with a note of which sector you represent. Claire will then be in touch to arrange a conversation at a time that works for you.
