Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) is calling for business owners in Stockport to contribute to its Quarterly Economic Survey and share their thoughts on the state of the local economy.
The Greater Manchester Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) is conducted by Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. The survey monitors business sentiment across key areas such as domestic demand, plans to recruit, perceived gaps in skills and, more recently, the economic implications of Covid-19, the impact of Brexit and the recovery post-lockdown.
In 2020, the Quarterly Economic Survey, or QES, gauged how far Covid-19 business support measures, such as the furlough scheme, affected businesses and if government support was going far enough. Last quarter, the overall results showed that many businesses were optimistic, and that recruitment was actively improving; however, in some sectors there was a shortage of skilled labour to meet changing business requirements post-pandemic.
Conducted by the Chamber’s Head of Research, Subrah Krishnan-Harihara, the survey is crucial to local organisations that interact with businesses so that they can understand the health of the Greater Manchester business community.
As the economy has now re-opened, many commentators expect strong economic growth, and the survey will help to understand how different sectors and areas are responding to the ‘new normal.’
