Marketing Stockport member Gorvins Solicitors’ employees are now all Dementia Friends, thanks to training from their colleague Tasoula Crosby, a Dementia Champion.
The Dementia Friends campaign was launched by Public Health England and the Alzheimer’s Society supported by Stockport Council and aims to help people develop an understanding of dementia and turn it into action to help people in their community living with dementia.
Tasoula, an Associate Solicitor at Gorvins, became a Dementia Champion because many of the clients that she works with are either living with dementia or are caring for a family member living with Dementia. The training helped her to better understand the circumstances and the situations that her clients are living with.

Tasoula commented:
“Coming into a business where the employees have been to a Dementia Friends information session really helps the client, because they first of all know that they are coming into an environment which is dementia friendly.
“Often they are scared about going into new situations, so Gorvins employees are now able to help clients feel comfortable in that environment. It also means more clients come in and see us about what we do, because they are less afraid to do so.”
Dementia is one of the biggest health issues in the UK with over 670,000 people currently living with the condition. Gorvins have become advocates of the Dementia Friends campaign and regularly hold seminars and talks for people who are or have been affected by it.

Councillor John Pantall, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Health and Well Being, said:
“We strongly encourage Stockport Businesses both small and large to become Dementia Friends. Either through attending a face-to-face session with a Dementia Champion like Tasoula or simply visit the Dementia Friends website and watch the customer-focused videos, relevant to people’s day-to-day jobs. The benefits to all are wide-ranging.”
Employees are being asked to become a friend, by watching a short video on at www.dementiafriends.org.uk/customers or find out where their nearest Dementia Friend session is.
