Stockport businessman Tom Hogg, Group Chairman and founder of IT company CDL, has been presented with a Special Recognition Award at the Stockport Business Awards 2014, for his outstanding contribution to the Stockport business community.
The judging panel were impressed by Tom’s long term commitment to employment and training of people in the borough and commended him for his recent investment in an ambitious construction project to expand CDL’s headquarters and create a state-of-the-art business campus at Kings Reach.
Judges said of the Special Recognition Award:
“We were all thrilled to have found such a worthy winner.”
Entrepreneur, Tom Hogg, (pictured left) founded CDL in 1977 with his wife Jessica, initially running the company out of their front room. From these humble beginnings, Tom went on to win a major corporate contract to implement an international IT system for Brother. In the late 1970s he went on to spot an opportunity to transform the insurance sector through technology and this has remained the focus of the company ever since.
Today, CDL, which is based on Kings Reach Road, near the Stockport Pyramid, is a multi-million pound business, whose customers are amongst the most efficient and profitable in the industry. The insurance software house remains at the forefront of innovation using telematics and mobile technology, and anyone who has ever purchased car insurance online or over the phone will have interacted with CDL’s software at some point.
CDL has grown to employ a workforce of over 470 skilled people, taking on people with a range of experience, from apprenticeships and graduates to more experienced IT professionals.
Tom has also remained committed to investing in Stockport, with a range of community initiatives, such as the CDL Fund, in collaboration with Forever Manchester, to support local groups.
Speaking of the award, Tom Hogg said:
“It is an honour to be recognised in this way by my peers in Stockport. I believe strongly that the borough offers everything that a business needs to succeed. CDL has strong ties to the local area. Our expansion into a new campus means that we can continue to meet the needs of customers and invest in the town that has been our home since 1977.”
The award was presented in a ceremony at the Hallmark Hotel on 2 October 2014.
