
August bank holiday weekend starts today in Stockport and there are plenty of events to keep the whole family entertained for the whole weekend.
Stockport Old Town Fringe Festival: The free event will begin on August 26 with Foodie Friday and will continue to 28th, with free entertainment in Market place and Castle Yard.
Woodsmoor Classic Car Show 29th August: charity car show funds for St Ann’s Hospice and Tommy’s: £2 for adults, donations on entry.
Bloom: An Arts for Wellbeing Outreach Celebration: at Heaton Norris celebrating the participant’s creative and personal achievements between 11am and 4pm for refreshments, a free tote bag activity and 2 art exhibitions.
Councillor Sheila Bailey, Executive member for Communities & Housing said: “Stockport August Bank Holiday weekend will kick off with this month’s Foodie Friday, and going into the weekend there are a number of events going on across the borough including Stockport Old Town Fringe Festival, which will be free of charge.
“Other events during Stockport Bank Holiday weekend include the Woodsmoor classic car show and the Bloom: An Arts for Wellbeing Outreach Celebration, which will both be on throughout the weekend.
“There is something on for all ages to get involved with and enjoy the weekend”
STOCKPORT COUNCIL ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO ‘JOIN IN, I AM TEAM GB’
Are you ready to be part of the nation’s biggest ever sports day?
On the 27 August Stockport Council will be encouraging residents to get out and get active.
Join in, I Am Team GB will be the biggest national event in the calendar for everyone who supports popular sport.
Stockport has a number of sporting events going on across the borough including:

• The BIG Lift | I AM TEAM GB- Broadstone Rd, Stockport SK5 7AR
• Sportshall Athletics session- Opp Jacksons Lane/Hazel Grove High School, Hazel Grove, Stockport SK7
• Everybody Sports Day- Poynton Leisure Centre, Yewtree Ln, Poynton, Stockport SK12 1PU
• I Am Team GB Marple parkrun- Brabyns Park, Stockport SK6 5DT
• Stockport Powerleague Sports Day- Craig Rd, Stockport SK4 2AP
Councillor Tom McGee, Executive member for Health said: “This is a great opportunity for the residents of Stockport to get out and be active with such a wide variety of activities suitable for people of all ages going on across the borough.
“I’d urge everyone to get involved and hope that the incredible success of Team GB at the Rio Olympics act as an inspiration to try a new sport out or to start participating in a sport again.”
