STOCKPORT is already home to an eclectic mix of over 12,000 organisations, from global brands to smaller companies and emerging businesses; it has a thriving business community both in the centre and across the many business parks, many of whom have deep roots and an established heritage, and a quite unique, selfless commitment to nurturing and retaining talent for the good of the future local economy.
That belief has now been endorsed in a report commissioned by Santander. Using a sample of 74 UK towns & cities, the report examined enterprise, talent, costs, connectivity & well-being to find those areas providing the most favourable business conditions scaled to those offering the most unfavourable.
Those competitive across all criteria are identified as being best placed to aid UK economy & future growth; Stockport ranked joint 14th, with only Aberdeen (12th) and York (13th) featuring slightly higher to represent northern towns and cities.
Even more impressive, when looking in isolation, Stockport ranked in the top 10 for talent. By communicating important and influential facts such as these, we aim to attract more business to the area; to encourage greater trade between Stockport based businesses and to promote Stockport as a world class destination for business.
In September the new Technical free school SK1 opens, the first of its kind in the UK where education and business are working in unison and where young talent will be encouraged and nurtured to become the new entrepreneurs and business success stories in the future.
At the forthcoming Stockport Business Awards in October – Marketing Stockport are sponsoring the The Award for Training Young People. This award recognises the support, effort and passion given by local businesses and organisations to help young people gain a good start to their lives, future careers and be ‘work prepared’.
It will be awarded to a business which encourages talented young people to stay in the region, and therefore stems the potential skills leakage from Stockport.
