Senior staff at a charity for disabled children have made a splash to raise cash. The magnificent seven swam a mile across the cold and murky waters of Ullswater in the Lake District.
They are hoping to raise £5,000 for Seashell Trust, the Cheadle Hulme charity that educates and cares for children and young people with profound disabilities and communication disorders.

Mark Geraghty, Seashell Trust’s chief executive, said:
“We decided as the senior leadership team that we should take on a challenge to raise money for Seashell Trust. A swim across Ullswater was suggested, which was a daunting prospect as many of the team had never swum in open water before.
“After extensive practice, both in the Seashell Trust pool and at Boundary Green Water Park in very wet weather, everyone made it across and back the lake in around 45 minutes.
“Despite the weather having been beautiful all week, it was a slightly cloudy day so the water was fairly cold but family and friends turned out to support us and we celebrated with a barbecue, after which talk turned to what the challenge for 2014 should be. Any ideas welcome!”
