Stockport Homes Group’s Skylight Furniture Project has put out a call for donations to meet the needs of a growing number of borough residents struggling with the cost of living.
Skylight provides furniture to people who are experiencing furniture poverty, giving those in need an opportunity to access furniture that helps them to turn a house or flat into a home.
Since launching in April 2021, the furniture recycling project has supported 814 households with furniture and white goods. In November 2022, the project moved to new premises in Hazel Grove where it operates an IKEA-style showroom to give customers inspiration for their homes.
With growing numbers of people in Stockport struggling with rising prices, the project has put out a call for donations of second-hand furniture.
They are looking for any items but in particular, there is a demand for sofas, chairs, and wardrobes. Sofas will need to still have the fire sticker attached due to legislation.
The project relies on receiving donations from the general public, either from households, or from businesses that may be redesigning or moving premises.
Donating can be done online by entering the items and contact details via the Skylight Furniture Project website.
The Skylight team will collect donated furniture free of charge.
