The bi-annual SK+ Film Awards have opened for submissions, organisers Drawing Board Productions CIC have announced.
First launched in 2019 to showcase and celebrate the wealth of amateur film-making talent across Stockport, the awards have been rebranded as the SK+ Film Awards.
The submissions in the awards’ inaugural year were of an extremely high standard, and film winners varied in genre from horror to suspense and comedy. A number of the submissions were upbeat, uplifting and celebrated the beauty of Stockport, and the Awards evening held at the Savoy Cinema in Heaton Moor was a true celebration event.
In 2021, the impact of Covid-19 and the pandemic evident was in the submissions received. The frivolity and comedic sentiment had shifted to a more intense, serious and dramatic content. It was clear that film-makers had been challenged by freedom and positive inspiration, and the tone of the film content had darkened as film-makers explored more sinister themes.
This year’s focus will be to encourage film-makers to embrace the beauty of Stockport once more by submitting films with positive, uplifting and possibly even comedic content.
There are prizes available for every category – Best Film Documentary, Best Film On A Mobile Device, Best Fictional Film – in three age groups – under 16s, 16 – 24, over 25s, and of course the People’s Choice Award!
Th awards are free to enter for all amateur, student or professional filmmakers with less than two years experience, living or studying in an SK postcode. For more information about the awards, visit the SK+ Film Awards website.
