For the second year in a row, Stockport County’s groundskeepers have been named Professional Football Grounds Team of the Year at the Grounds Management Association (GMA) Industry Awards.
Liam Cash and his team (pictured) attended the awards ceremony at Anfield to collect the prize, which recognises the best in sports turf management at clubs outside of the Premier League and the Championship in England, and the Scottish Premiership.
The award is recognition for Stockport County’s grounds team who work in all conditions to ensure the pitch at Edgeley Park is in pristine condition and provides the perfect playing surface.
Head Groundsman at Edgeley Park, Liam Cash, was also awarded a Pioneer Legacy trophy: an initiative that celebrates those to have made a lasting impact on the industry through support for the next generation of groundskeepers. Commenting on the awards, he said:
“I said this last year – to be in the final stages for an award like this was great recognition for the lads, but to win it is always extra special. It’s fantastic to be representing our Club at prestigious awards nights amongst our peers, something we are extremely proud of.
“It is very much a team effort with the work that goes into both EP, and the day-to-day running of the pitches at Carrington. We’ve had extra load on the pitches this year across both sites with the introduction of our U18s team too.
“It was also great to welcome an England fixture at Edgeley Park, which was fantastic for everyone involved, and we are looking forward to hopefully welcoming them back again soon. The award, as ever, really is a testament to Justin, Jake, Bailey, Ian and Todd for their brilliant work.”
