Stockport Council and Stockport MDC have begun the procurement process for delivery partners for the Stockport 8 development within the town centre.
The eight-acre site will form new Brinksway and Station Quarter communities within Stockport MDC’s vision for redeveloping the Town Centre West area as part of Stockport Council’s £1 billion regeneration ambitions. Proposals being brought forward are set to bring around 1,000 new homes to the town centre, alongside leisure, retail and office space within walkable and digitally-enabled neighbourhoods.
Supported by property consultancy, CBRE, the procurement process has begun for delivery partners to work with Stockport Council and Stockport MDC to bring their vision for the £250 million Stockport 8 scheme into fruition. Procurement is being undertaken by the council’s STAR Procurement team, with oversight from Homes England, with the process expected to take around a year to complete and has kicked off with a pre-engagement process to identify potential investor partners on the scheme.
Potential partners will enter into a 50:50 joint venture corporate entity, with the Stockport 8 site divided into three separate plots to deliver 280-320, 160 and 400 new homes respectively. Partners will need to work in-live with the borough’s One Stockport vision to deliver on the council’s objectives of:
- Housing a growing community
- Sustainability and carbon reduction
- Innovation and future-proofing
- Putting people at the heart of regeneration
- Communications, external relations and engagement.
- Enhancing connectivity
- Increasing employment and economic growth
The Council is looking to work with organisations with a track record of delivering on major regeneration projects, with strong social value and sustainability credentials, and with the expertise and financial security to bring the scheme to life.
Progress on Stockport 8 will add to the existing regeneration projects already underway in the Town Centre West area being overseen by Stockport MDC, including the restoration of Weir Mill, further development at Stockport Exchange and residential schemes at the former St Thomas Hospital and Royal George Village on former parts of Stockport College’s Wellington Road campus.
