Sarah-Jane Dunhill, an Associate from SAS Daniels LLP, has been named as President of Stockport Incorporated Law Society.
Sarah-Jane has taken over the role from Sarah Miller, of Higgins Miller Solicitors, and will continue to build awareness of the society within the local community, as well as strengthening links with The Law Society’s national office at Chancery Lane, London.
Keen to build on the membership upturn over the course of the last twelve months, Sarah-Jane will work alongside Deputy President, Jennifer Penman, from Alfred Newton Solicitors, to ensure the organisation is active in the local community, raising issues affecting its members, such as the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO), which came into force in April 2013 and has seen significant cuts in access to legal aid.
As a member of SAS Daniels’ Dispute Resolution team, Sarah-Jane is delighted to represent her profession in her capacity as President. Commenting on the appointment, she said:
“It’s an honour to have this opportunity. We’ve worked hard to raise awareness, drive membership and recruit new members to the committee. I’m keen to give a voice to issues affecting our sector and support professionals working in our community.”
With a busy events programme and an active membership, Stockport Incorporated Law Society is also working to assist local firms with education support by looking at providing courses that are accessible and relevant to members’ areas of practice.
Jonathan Whittaker, Senior Partner at SAS Daniels, added:
“Sarah-Jane is a credit to the firm, with passion, enthusiasm and a strong grasp of the issues that are affecting solicitors in the local community and beyond. This is an exciting time for the society which will, no doubt, continue to go from strength to strength under Sarah-Jane’s leadership.”
