Former British and Irish Lion and member of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winning squad, Mike Catt, passed on his sporting tips to local school children and business people in Manchester recently.
The current England attacking skills coach, (left) who was part of the British and Irish Lions squad in 1997 and 2001, visited Manchester Grammar School as part of his role as Yorkshire Bank Ambassador.
The rugby star led a skills-based coaching session and answered questions about his career and his World Cup winning achievements from students.
Mike also signed mini rugby balls and autograph cards for the pupils.
Steve Swindells, director of rugby at Manchester Grammar School, said:
“It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to work and learn from one of England’s great players and coaches. Mike has been a model professional over his career and for him to take time out of his very busy schedule to visit Manchester Grammar School share these experiences with the players, was hugely appreciated. We are also extremely grateful to Sean Williams and the team at Yorkshire Bank for organising a day that many of us will remember for years to come.”
Earlier the same day, the rugby international was the star attraction at a private lunch for 30 guests held in his honour at Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Baking Centre in Manchester. The event took place to promote the Bank’s Private Week.
Sean Williams, Head of Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in South and Central Manchester said:
“Mike is a brilliant role model for students and his successes in the field of sport also have many parallels in the business community. As well as motivating school pupils to work hard to achieve their goals, his lunchtime visit was quite evidently an inspirational one for members of some of Manchester’s most successful business heads.”
