The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) is a Ministry of Defence owned organisation whose purpose is to supply operational and logistical support for the Royal Navy’s vessels around the world.
The RFA are also regular visitors to MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Ltd’s (MDT-UK) training Academy in Hazel Grove.
Several RFA vessels feature French built Pielstick engines, which in turn are part of the global MAN Group. In 2010, MDT-UK took on responsibility for the support of Pielstick engines in use in the UK.
Since then, MDT-UK’s training Academy has delivered six, five-day courses each year for the RFA; some are standard maintenance, others advanced.
In March and April this year, MDT-UK presented its first and second courses for 2016. RFA’s engineers are required to attend these courses to enable them to progress through their professional qualifications.
In addition to both the practical and theoretical training on the Pielstick engines, course participants also take advantage to view and discuss other engine types the company houses in its Academy engine hall.
MDT-UK hopes to continue its relationship with the RFA for many years to come.
