Romiley Co-op staff and customers raised over £7,000 for NK Theatre Arts as part of The Big Co-Op Pay Out, which is giving £17 million to local causes this year.
The money has been raised by Co-op members: for every pound members spend on own brand products, a penny goes to support local charities and community projects, with money from the Berrycroft Lane store in Romiley, Stockport, going to the theatre group.
Stuart Dean, Chair of the Trustee Board at NK Theatre Arts, said how important the support of local businesses is to the charity:
It’s fantastic to be awarded such a sum from the Co-op and it’s an amazing thing that they are doing for local organisations up and down the country. We are extremely grateful to all of the Co-op members who have chosen NK as the cause they want to support. There are so many businesses in Stockport that do so much as part of their CSR and we are thrilled to have been a part of this scheme.”
Delighted that the funding given by shoppers at the store was going towards such a local cause, Co-op store manager, Alonso Camacho, said:
I am delighted that we have been able to help such a brilliant local organisation which is so close to our store. A big thank you to all of our members who were able to raise so much money as part of the Big Co Op Pay Out for NK Theatre Arts”
Kerry Day, NK’s founder and Theatre Company Director said:
Our members, parents and volunteers work so hard to fund raise for improvements to the facilities at the theatre. Over the summer we managed to raise enough money for a new dance floor for our members and this year we want to continue to improve the public areas as well as the backstage facilities for all of the children and young people that perform at the facility and we are thrilled that through this funding we are able to kickstart this year’s campaign”
