After an 18 month refurbishment carried out by Robinsons Brewery in Stockport, The Royal Ship Hotel, Dolgellau, will welcome customers to view the hotel’s brand new look on March 11th.
The investment, which has transformed the trading areas of the hotel and the 23 guest bedrooms across 3 floors, is a continuation of Robinsons’ commitment to investing in their 300 strong pub estate.
William Robinson, Managing Director for Robinsons (Pub Division) said: “We are extremely proud of our welsh pub estate and are fortunate to have some exceptional locations and properties. The refurbishment of this existing Managed House has reinforced our commitment to this site and the hotel is now fully equipped to deliver the needs of the expanding tourism market in the area.”

One-of-the-new bedrooms
The hotel’s location inside Snowdonia National Park along with the newly refurbished bedrooms will ensure that the Royal Ship continues to promote tourism in Dolgellau whilst offering a premium bedroom choice.
Simon Taylor, Retail Operations Manager for Robinsons said: “In 2014, there were 10 million overnight trips to Wales by the British public with 64% visiting for holidays so it’s important that we continue to help fly the flag for Welsh tourism within the area.”
A sympathetic upgrade
Throughout, the refurbishment has been carried out with care to ensure that the Royal Ship’s unique architecture has remained. A sympathetic upgrade has ensured that the end result is one of a Royal Ship that has evolved with a nod to the past but a clear direction to deliver for the future. The main public trading area now flows seamlessly across all rooms, whilst the clever design has offered flexibility to section areas off as required for dining, meetings or private functions.
Original fire places have been reinstated, oak parquet floors, a new bar counter and display, a fantastic reception, lifts to all floors, accessible bedrooms and refurbished toilets all go towards creating spaces that are impressive but not ostentatious, resulting in a premium hotel with a warm pub feel.
The hotel’s new menu champion’s fresh, seasonal Welsh produce served with flair and theatre. Welsh steaks, mussels and Moroccan lamb cutlets sit proudly next to pub classics including The Royal Ship’s signature burger made using Robinsons award-winning Old Tom ale.
Closing, Simon said: “We are so proud of what has been achieved over the last year and the response from the local community, regulars and the many visitors who have kept faith during this period has been incredible. We certainly have their seal of approval and even during the heaviest upheaval the patience and response to the emerging finishes and designs has been great. We’re proud to show off our new look this Friday to customers old and new.”
The Royal Ship Hotel on Queens Square, Dolgellau, LL40 1AR reopens from 5pm on Friday 11th March.
