Robinsons Brewery in Stockport have launched South Island, a tantalising new seasonal inspired by our ‘kiwi’ friends.
The 4.2% ABV blonde beer marks the first time that Robinsons have used the Nelson Sauvin hop; unique to New Zealand and is grown near the north coast of the south island.
The combination of these hops, along with Robinsons masterful brewing, results in a blonde ale that evokes tropical flavours such as passion fruit, tangerines and grapefruit whilst imparting a delicate aroma that resembles white wine.
In preparation for this special ale, 5th generation Director of Robinsons Brewery, David Robinson, travelled to New Zealand to visit Peter Lines’ hop farm to get a first-hand look at the hops that went into this new quaffable ale.
“It was quite an adventure” said David. “Nelson Sauvin has a character all of its own and it really comes through in South Island. The pint has a pale golden colour with a really prominent bitterness coming from the hops. The location where these hops are grown is ideal and the refreshing taste of the drink really reminds me of the pristine New Zealand air.”
South Island is available nationally via listings with Heineken, Carlsberg and Punch, and regionally via selective Robinsons’ pubs across Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Derbyshire, Wales and Staffordshire. Available only until the end of October – so get it while you can!
