Sub-national transport body, Transport for the North (TfN), has set out its priorities for improving the region’s infrastructure with the publication of its 2022/23 business plan.
The plan was put before TfN’s Board, including political and business leaders from across the North of England, setting out how it will act with ‘one voice’ for the region.
Martin Tugwell, Chief Executive of TfN, said:
“Over recent years TfN has become widely recognised for providing a key evidence base which helps with critical decision-making across a wide range of transport-related issues.
“This has been recognised at a national, regional and local level and is helping inform how the North evolves as we emerge from a period of significant turbulence. We now want to continue to build on this work with our partners to unlock the full potential of the North.”
The organisation’s new business plan is focused on ensuring the organisation is:
- A centre of technical excellence for the North
- A sourced of trusted information
- A strategic thought leader and champion of strategic transport planning
- An enabler of accelerated delivery
- A trusted collaborator
Additionally, other priorities for the coming year include work to update TfN’s Independent Economic Review for the region, as well as revising its Strategic Transport Plan, which sets out how infrastructure investment could deliver 850,000 new jobs and add up to £100 billion to the region’s economy by 2050.
TfN’s Board met at 2:30pm on Thursday 30 June at the Crown Hotel, Harrogate, to sign off on the plan, and also approve the organisation’s budget for the coming year. The Board comprises representatives of the region’s 20 Local Transport Authorities and 11 Local Enterprise Partnerships.
