Stockport Council’s Planning and Highways Regulation Committee have approved plans to redevelop Vauxhall Industrial Estate in Reddish.
Plans will see existing buildings on the industrial estate demolished to make way for 200,000 sq ft of new industrial and warehouse units. Proposals were given the green light from ward councillors in the Heatons and Reddish area at the end of June, with the Council’s planning committee having the final say on Thursday 7th July.
Vauxhall Industrial Estate is currently mostly vacant, and plans will see 28 units across six blocks replacing the existing structures on the site, alongside parking for 175 vehicles including 34 electric vehicle charging points. Proposals were first put forward in November 2021, and have been amended slightly to reduce the scheme’s potential impact on local traffic and air quality.
Proposals by the site’s owners, Western UK Property Group (WUKPG), will also dramatically improve the energy efficiency and green credentials of the property to make them more attractive to prospective owners looking to reduce their carbon emissions and energy consumption. Designs incorporate a mix of air-source heat pumps and gas-fired radiant tube heating for heating and cooling, and photovoltaic solar panels will also be installed on rooftops to generate green electricity for occupiers.
Once occupied, the site could support around 700 jobs in easy reach of the M60, as well as helping to meet the undersupply of smaller industrial units in Greater Manchester.
WUKPG were supported in the plans for the Reddish industrial estate by planning consultants SATPLAN, with designs by architects, C4 Projects.
