Royal Bank of Scotland has announced the closure of 162 branches with the loss of 800 jobs with over 30 branches affected across Greater Manchester.
Ten RBS branches will close in Manchester, three in the city centre including the flagship Spinningfields branch.
The Williams & Glyn brand had been resurrected in a bid to meet legislative requirements but, as no buyer was found, it is no longer going to be re-established.
A statement issued by RBS said:
“We are no longer launching Williams & Glynn as a ‘challenger bank’ and we now have two branch networks operating in close proximity to each other: NatWest and RBS in England & Wales.
RBS Branches to close in Stockport include:
Bramhall
Cheadle
Cheadle Hulme
Stockport – Great Underbank
