The Royal Bank of Scotland are adding their support to promote National Knowledge Transfer Week. Innovate UK (Technology Strategy Board – TSB) and 9 North West Universities are collaborating in an event on Monday 3rd November at Manchester’s Museum of Science Industry (MOSI) as part of the national Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) week.
The first National KTP Week will take place between 3 – 7 November ’14 across the UK, to celebrate and promote the innovative and diverse potential of KTP projects. A series of events across the country will showcase the success stories of collaborations between academia and business. Hundreds of businesses have benefited from the knowledge, technology and skills that reside within UK universities.
This event is the first time all 9 North West universities have collaborated on a business event showcasing how innovation and academic collaboration via KTP funding can help North West companies grow.
Marketing Stockport member Jon Crossley – Managing Director – Dyer Enviromental Controls Ltd has completed a KTP with The University of Salford and is a guest speaker:
“We started by supplying manual remote window openings to the construction industry. As time and technology moved on, we broadened our range to include electrical openings and smoke ventilation systems.
“The majority of our electrical smoke and natural ventilation systems are manufactured in Hamburg by our partner D+H Mechatronic. For over 40 years D+H has repeatedly set the standard for safe, reliable ventilation systems improving comfort, safety and energy efficiency in over 100,000 buildings around the world”.
Jon & Dyer completed a KTP with The University of Salford in 2011. The “SOLIS” product was developed and successfully launched from the KTP project. This resulted in a £500,000 investment into Dyer from the German manufacturing company D+H Mechatronic for the manufacturing rights.
Dyer also gained valuable understanding of manufacturing techniques through multiple Chinese & German manufacturing research visits.
A global patent has now been applied for and SOLIS has now been commercially recognised, being shortlisted in the Innovation Zone Awards at both Ecobuild 2010 and BRE Insite11. As a result Dyer was a guest speaker at both Retrofit 2011 and Greenbuild.
For information purposes the basic entry criteria for a KTP is an organisation that is financially secure, above 5 employees, actively trading for at least one year.
