The team from RBS in Stockport left their desks, swapped their suits for shorts and Filofaxes for forks for their latest community support project. Two groups of volunteers, from the Stockport branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland, spent one Friday each working on the Peace Garden at St Agnes Church, Reddish with the main aim being to make it more accessible for the local community.
The RBS ‘Bravehearts’ at work
On two of the hottest days of the summer the two teams set to work and by the end of the project had transformed the gardens into a green and more manageable recreational space for the residents of the area to enjoy.
Eleven members of staff from RBS team had a really fun time and didn’t shy away from the hard work; by the time the project was completed they had:
- Placed at least 9 tonnes of stone on the main path around the garden.
- Moved quite a few tonnes of soil to help level up an area designated for a labyrinth and to raise the soil levels in the 7 giant raised beds.
- Painted most of the trellising around the garden.

Their combined efforts have made a huge difference to the Peace Garden, which local people are thrilled with and have commented on. Besides their hard work, they also brought a gift of gardening tools and a very beautiful “Braveheart” rose which will always be a reminder of what was achieved in just 2 days.
The time and effort dontated by RBS made a real difference to the community in Reddish but this is an on-going project. If you are an employer or an employee and would like to help please contact:
