Stockport businesses are invited to put forward teams or individuals for a charity abseil in aid of Sector3, the borough’s charity infrastructure support organisation.
On Saturday 26 March everyday citizens will brave the harness to abseil down one of Stockport’s iconic buildings (exact venue to be confirmed, in previous years it has been Stopford House, pictured).
The abseil has become a regular fixture in the calendar for the Mayor of Stockport’s Charity, raising funds for a local cause. This year the Mayor’s Charity have partnered with Stockport’s charity infrastructure support organisation, Sector3.
Stockport has an estimated 1,670 charity and volunteer led groups who every day of the year do amazing things for local citizens. They feed the hungry, combat homelessness, raise money to fight cancer, care for our environment, tackle our mental health crisis, promote animal welfare, and so much more. Sector3 work with these organisations to support them to thrive so they can continue to be there for communities who depend on them. Throughout the pandemic these groups and organisations, who formed a crucial part of the emergency response, moved mountains to restructure their services in order to deliver essential support to those struggling. Many organisations have ripped through their financial reserves in order to continue serving their neighbourhoods.
The charity sector will play a crucial role in rebuilding communities as we move past the pandemic. Infrastructure investment and support will be pivotal to ensuring grassroots groups have the resources to survive.
Donations to the Mayor’s Charity will go to Sector3 to be reinvested into developing a local volunteer hub for Stockport. Volunteers donate £105 million of time to our boroughs’ charity sector – a crucial resource for organisations, many of which are run solely by volunteers. Participants are invited to sign up as an individual or a team and there is no charge for the abseil or minimum sponsorship amount.
