One of Stockport’s major businesses, Hughes Safety Showers, is sponsoring a one-off Charity performance of the rock opera “Quadrophenia” at the Palace Theatre this summer.
Following their recent run of the show at The Forum Theatre in Romiley, Hughes Safety Showers are helping to finance NK Theatre Arts as they take the show, based on the iconic album by “The Who” into Manchester on Sunday 14th July.
Tony Hughes, CEO of Hughes Safety Showers, explained why the Company got involved.
“We take very seriously our Corporate Social Responsibility and helping to raise funds for NK Theatre Arts is a great way to help us to achieve our goal of assisting people in our local Stockport Community.
“With no local authority funding available, it is hoped that the business community in Stockport get behind this organisation to ensure its long term stability and future development is secure and Hughes Safety Showers recognise our responsibilities to get behind such a vital Charity that works tirelessly in the community.
“We are looking for businesses of all sizes to join us in supporting this event and looking at ways to get involved with the Charity on an on-going basis, perhaps supporting specific projects which correspond with a particular business portfolio.”
Darren Stannage, Company Manager from NK Theatre Arts said:
“NK Theatre Arts is an invaluable resource in the community. Each week the Registered Charity works with many young people from all backgrounds, abilities, disabilities and of many cultures providing sessions in music, dance and drama, using the arts as a vehicle for confidence building, obtaining life skills and empathy for others as it allows for a safe and stimulating environment for children, young people and adults to maximise their full potential”.
As well as the weekly classes, NK visits countless school and community groups throughout the year delivering social and issue based presentations that highlight some very real issues facing young people today. Young children learn about issues such as stranger danger, anti-social behaviour and domestic violence whilst teenagers deal with potentially life changing situations when they address street crime, dangers of the internet, alcohol abuse and drugs. There are also many educational projects with the company delivering resources for GCSE Performing Arts students.

Darren concluded:
“The Palace Theatre is a really good opportunity for us to generate some much needed revenue to continue our work. Quadrophenia proved to be a unique production which was extremely well received by those who saw it and we hope the many people who came to The Forum will journey to The Palace with us to see the production again.
“We take the audience on an emotional journey set in Manchester and Blackpool, with the clashes between The Mods and The Rockers as we follow Jimmy and his uphill battle with split personalities and his many high’s and lows with the story all set to an incredible soundtrack”.
The show also has the backing of Pete Townshend who has granted permission for the Charity performance, with The Who themselves appearing in Manchester playing hits from the album at The Manchester Arena just three weeks earlier.
