Stockport based charity, Pure Insight, is hosting an information evening to help people consider volunteering for the charity as mentors to care leavers in Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
The charity works with young people leaving care with counselling services, wellbeing and other support, and are calling for people from the local communities they work with to become mentors, and support care leavers to flourish.
Mentors typically volunteer 2-3 hours a week to support a care leaver over a minimum of 2 years, offering advice and experience on issues such as housing, managing finances, or deciding on next steps in life. Pure Insight provide 10 weeks of training to all mentors, who are also subject to a DBS check and referencing.
An information evening for prospective volunteer mentors will take place on Thursday 7th April at 7.30pm, where Pure Insight will share more information about the volunteer mentor role and the work the Stockport charity does for care leavers more widely.
One current mentor said of their experience volunteering with Pure Insight:
“I genuinely feel they know what they are talking about. I feel really well supported. It’s a great scheme,”
