Fast fashion retailer, Primark, has revealed plans to dip its toes into online sales for the first time with a trial of a click-and-collect service in its stores in the North-west.
The retailer will launch the service for childrenswear in 25 locations, with Stockport likely to be among them, by the end of 2022.
The move will be the first time Primark has offered clothing for sale online, bucking wider trends within the clothing sector, and expects to offer around 2,000 products through the service, including around 40% exclusively for click-and-collect shoppers.
The announcement follows the successful launch of a new “shop window” style website, allowing customers to browse the retailers ranges before visiting stores. Primark bosses hopes that the new click-and-collect service will help capture new customers who prefer the convenience of exploring products online, as well as driving footfall to its smaller stores which will be able to offer a greater number of products
Despite being among the hardest hit retailers by Covid-19 lockdowns due to its offline-only approach, Primary has recorded a strong rebound in sales in the post-pandemic period. Total sales rose 81% year-on-year to £5.27 billion, and is set to be just 4% down on pre-Covid figures.
The brand has also been boosted by the return of international tourism, reporting strong sales of holidaywear, luggage and other summer accessories. Licensed products including its Stranger Things collection released to time with the latest series of the Netflix drama have also performed strongly.
