As part of the Platform81 #10for10 charity initiative, the Stockport based digital and design agency are running a campaign to support the homeless.
Platform 81 is partnering with local charity, Stockport Loaves and Fishes, to feed the homeless and disadvantaged this September by hosting its very own Great British Bacon Butty Off!
Inspired by a love of the Great British Bake Off and the team’s lack of baking skills, Platform81 are offering the next best thing: Bacon (Bake-on! Get it?).
There’ll be no competition, soggy bottoms, or freezer-gate though; just a group of agency professionals looking to give something back to the community.
The Great British Bacon Butty Off will be taking place on Tuesday the 25th and Thursday the 27th of September at the Olive Branch drop-in centre on Castle Street. Here, the Platform 81 team will be providing free bacon butties from 11am – 1pm on both days for those in need.
Stockport Loaves and Fishes is a homeless project ran by Ed Leavy distributing clothes, bedding, tents, sleeping bags, and emergency food parcels to the homeless community and refugees. They offer food at their Olive Branch drop-in centre every day between 10am and 4pm, as well as hot meals every Sunday evening between 6 and 7.30pm at Stockport Baptist Church near Greek Street Stockport.
Platform 81’s Head of Social Media, Amanda Childs, and Digital Marketing Coordinator, Bridie Daniels visited the drop-in centre earlier this month and were blown away by the sense of community they discovered there. Many of the people who regularly visit the Olive Branch do so to combat the isolation that comes with being homeless or disadvantaged.
Explained Platform 81’s Head of Social Media, Amanda Childs:
“We also want to offer a friendly face, compassion, and conversation to those who need it most.
“We’re keen to use this campaign to open up a dialogue about, and raise awareness of, homelessness in the local area.”
Stockport Loaves and Fishes are always in need of dry food and are in desperate need of warm clothes now that winter is on its way. If you’d like to get involved then why not pop down to the drop-in centre, say hello to the Platform 81 team, and make a donation?
Platform81 will be providing full coverage of the event via their social media channels on the day, so make sure you follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
