Kirkland Developments have applied for planning permission to construct 34 apartments on the site of the derelict Woodman Inn pub in Hazel Grove.
Developers propose demolishing the old pub on London Road, which has been closed for the past eight years, and constructing in its place a single five-storey block of apartments. Flats will be a mix of 12 one- and 22 two-bedroom dwellings up to 62 sq m in size. A minimum of 20% of the apartments will add to affordable housing stock in Hazel Grove.
Only 15 car parking spaces, accessed from adjacent street Brewers Green, have been included in the design, given the site’s proximity to public transport routes on the A6 and Hazel Grove train station, and local amenities. The plans also include the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof, and two electric car charging points to reduce the scheme’s carbon footprint.
Plans have been submitted following pre-application discussions with Stockport Council, which have permitted some apartments to fall below national size standards, and influenced the inclusion of bike storage space for each apartment.
Nicol Thomas are the architects on the scheme with a planning statement prepared by NJL Consulting. A determination deadline on the development has been set as 4th August 2020.
