Manchester-based developer, Tala Homes, have submitted a full planning application for a scheme of 106 apartments in the neglected Hopes Carr area of the town centre.
Plans put forward details for 38 one-bedroom and 68 two-bedroom apartments as well as a new urban park on a 1 hectare site, largely comprising vacant scrub land and remains of former silk mill buildings, which was demolished 10 years ago.
Plans, submitted by Bramhall Planning with designs by The Chase Architecture, on behalf of the developers, include work to clear the site, as well as construction of the red brick apartment block, landscaping, and residents’ parking, which will include 43 vehicle 106 cycle spaces.
Submission of the planning application follows a number of design changes to the vehicle and pedestrian access approach to the proposed development brought about following a public consultation process in November 2023. Developers also engaged with Stockport Council’s regeneration team and Stockport Homes Group, which remains in ongoing discussions on becoming housing delivery partner for the scheme.
If approved, the apartments will add to go ongoing regeneration of the Hopes Carr area, which has in recent months seen the construction of other housing projects by Stockport Homes at its Covent Garden Village development. The new public park, centred on Hempshaw Brook, will also include the new Air Crash Memorial off Waterloo Road, and add to new town centre green space set to complete in Spring 2024 at Stockport Interchange.
