Plans have been revealed for a new £4.44 million eco business park, proposed for Bird Hall Lane, Cheadle as part of the area’s Towns Fund award.
Development partner, Network Space Developments, were appointed by Stockport Council in Spring 2023 to bring forward the scheme on the site of Totally Local Company’s former Enterprise House depot, off Bird Hall Lane. Developers have now submitted their formal plans for the new business park, which comprises 115,000 sq ft sustainable commercial space across six units.
Designs are targeting BREEAM Outstanding rating for the scheme, which, if achieved, will see the site among the top one-percent of non-residential buildings in the UK for sustainability.
The Eco Business Park proposals are part of the Cheadle Town Fund Board’s ambitions for the area, with the government’s levelling-up funding also delivering a new railway station for Cheadle on the line between Stockport and Altrincham, and walking and cycling infrastructure investment.
If approved, construction on the site is expected to support around 150 jobs, including up to 20 apprenticeships over the course of the 12 month build. At full capacity, Cheadle Eco Business Park is expected to host up to 300 employees, generating between £5.8 million and £10.8 million annually for the local economy.
The Cheadle Eco Business Park proposals are backed by the town’s successful £13.9 million bid to the government’s Towns Fund in 2021. Plans are continuing to be developed for a new train station in the town, following a public consultation on plans in late 2022. Active travel infrastructure funded by the award opened to the public in July 2023 and links the high street with new walking and cycling routes along the A34 currently being developed, the new station site and Cheadle Hulme.
