A huge response from over 500 Stockport residents regarding the development of the former Woodford Aerodrome site has delayed a decision that will determine the future use of the site.
Ahead of any planning applications the council must agree and approve a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD); the framework was to have been endorsed in December but will now be pushed back to January.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Stockport Council’s executive member for economic development and regeneration, said: “We want to make sure that all comments from the draft SPD consultation are taken into account. Due to the sheer volume of responses it has been decided to slightly alter some meeting dates to ensure this process is not rushed. The feedback is very important in shaping the final SPD in preparation for its adoption.”
The approval process will begin in December and conclude on January 7th with a meeeting of the SMBC Executive Council.
JCB heir Joe Bamford bought the site last year from BAE Systems for £10m and has plans to develop the site in partnership with Harrow Estates, a subsidiary of housebuilder Redrow to include 950 homes while other developers see its potential for alternative uses such as a film studio.
